The IMF told clients on Wednesday that their computer systems were hacked. The IMF has yet to make a formal announcement to the public. We do know that the breach was so serious the IMF cut all external access to their systems (access has since been restored) and the World Bank has cut ties to the IMF systems in order to protect their systems.
According to the New York Times, the breach could have taken place over several months. Great, the group that is charged with fixing some of our more troubling economic hot spots (Greece, Ireland to name a few) was being hacked for months.
So far no links have been made between recent hacking at RSA systems (a company that helps governments with security for sensitive computer systems) and Lockheed Martin (the US’s largest military contractor).
